Position Announcement: Stewardship Coordinator
Reports to: Executive Director
Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt, Salaried Employee
Chikaming Open Lands, a land trust working in Berrien County, Michigan, seeks a Stewardship Coordinator. The Stewardship Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing COL’s stewardship programs, including nature preserve management and conservation easement stewardship. The position also assists with all land protection activities and participates in education and outreach programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, plan, and implement COL’s stewardship programs. Work closely with the Stewardship Committee and volunteer stewards to manage COL’s nature preserves. Manage COL’s conservation easement monitoring program. Assist landowners by providing technical advice, information, or resources for land conservation. Assist Executive Director and Development & Marketing Manager in securing funding for land conservation activities via grants, private donations, and other partnerships. Work with the Education & Outreach Coordinator to recruit and coordinate volunteers for stewardship and other COL activities.
2. Land Protection:
Assist the Executive Director in identifying, evaluating, and completing land protection projects.
Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Education and Outreach:
Participate in COL education and outreach programs and activities for youth and adults. Prepare and deliver presentations to community organizations, schools, clubs, etc. Identify and collaborate with partners in the community to support COL’s mission and programs. Promote activities within the community to increase awareness of and support for COL.
2. General Administration:
Provide general clerical and administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, land conservation, or a related field is required. At least two years of previous work experience in land and natural resources management is required. Previous experience operating power tools and farm/lawn equipment is preferred. Previous work experience in real estate transactions is desirable. Strong writing, organizational, and interpersonal/communication skills are required. Requires proficient computer skills. Applicant should be a self-starter with the ability to collaborate with a team and interact with a wide variety of audiences. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required. Ability to work in an office environment and in an outdoor field environment. Passion for land conservation is required.
The position, located in Berrien County, Michigan, is full-time with an expected starting salary of $35,000 – 45,000, depending on qualifications. Normal working hours are 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.
