Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
August 21, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm
Join Chikaming Open Lands as well celebrate the solar eclipse at the Chikaming Township Park and Preserve from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The solar eclipse, which will be viewable locally around 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., will briefly turn daylight into twilight. While partial solar eclipses occur regularly, often two or three times annually, it is rare for the United States to be in the path of a total eclipse. No similar opportunity is available again until April 8, 2024, and then Aug. 12, 2045.
So that we can celebrate together, Chikaming Open Lands is excited to see the eclipse with the community at the viewing party. This family friendly event will take place at Chikaming Township Park and Preserve in Three Oaks located off of Warren Woods Road. Bring a blanket, chair and your sense of wonder as we view this event! The viewing will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the best time to see the solar eclipse at 2:15 p.m. Chikaming Open Lands will provide a limited number of viewing glasses so please bring your own or create a pin hole viewing box. The Chikaming Township Park and Preserve will be a great location to watch the eclipse with its open space ideal for viewing. Please note this event is weather permitting.
