Insect Night Hike

August 16, 2019 from 8:30pm to 10:00pm

Ever wonder what types of insects come out at night? Join us at Robinson Woods Preserve on Friday, August 16 at 8:30 pm as we explore the fascinating world of nocturnal insects. COL welcomes Dr. Jessica Beachy, Biology Professor at Lake Michigan College, who will lead this hike and share her expertise and experiences with native nocturnal insects! We will walk and talk through Robinson Woods Preserve and set up black-light stations that will attract a wide variety of bugs for an up-close and personal view.

Dr. Jessica Beachy received her Masters in Entomology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University and her Ph.D. in Forest Science from Michigan Technological University. Dr. Beachy's research at Virginia Tech focused on the feasibility of biological control methods in Virginia vineyards. Her research at Michigan Tech focused on the management of the Emerald Ash Borer, an invasive pest.
